Edeka Bleise: “5 percent of customers pay with bitcoins”
The Edeka Bleise in Hamburg is currently the only German acceptance point where you can order food for everyday life with bitcoins. We asked what EDEKA experiences had with bitcoins after acceptance caused a lot of sensation in early April.
For many Bitcoin users, the Edeka Bleise is the only point of contact to pay its staple foods with bitcoins after delivery service has merged with Lieferheld and the Bitcoin acceptance “temporarily” went over board. Mr. Bleise, operator of Edeka food.de, says he wants to offer as many payment methods as possible in his shop. And in addition to SEPA, credit card, PayPal, Amazon Payments, Bitcoins also include.

For many operators of online shops, the integration of bitcoins and the documentation of incoming and outputs are an apparently huge problem. For Bleise: “Integration was not difficult! We are very satisfied with this payment method. No failures or problems so far.“Bitpay’s service, the largest Bitcoin Payment provider, which offers a 0 confirmation acceptance, was helpful to change paid amounts to euros.
The experiment with Bitcoin has so far been clearly successful for Bleise. “Currently, 5 percent of our customers use this payment option. Every shop operator should slowly offer Bitcoin as a normal payment method. Bitcoin is steadily growing.”
